Yupi Star Wars
Rare Yupi Star Wars Figures with a Unique Backstory
I recently acquired a special set of Yupi Star Wars figures from Sylvia Reyes, who lives in Pasto, Nariño. Her late uncle worked in Quality Control at the plastic factory that originally produced these figures for Yupi in the 1980s. A passionate collector of antiques and oddities, he unknowingly held onto several of these tiny Star Wars figures—some of which were factory "rejects" due to molding flaws and were meant to be recycled. Instead, he kept them simply because he thought they looked interesting.
The factory, once located in a rural village, shut down decades ago, and today a car dealership sits on the old site. Since her uncle’s passing, Sylvia has been researching the figures and their history. Thanks to her efforts, these rare pieces—steeped in both nostalgia and origin—have now resurfaced. It’s a fascinating piece of Yupi and Star Wars collector history that I’m thrilled to share.
