Antique Wood Mah-Jongg Tile Racks
Set of four original wooden Mah-Jongg tile racks from the American Mahjong craze of the 1920s, featuring built-in doubling score tables printed on the back edge. Branded by Hammond Manufacturing Co. and used in early U.S. Mah-Jongg boxed game sets.
This is a set of four antique wooden Mah-Jongg tile racks, dating to the 1920s American Mah-Jongg boom era, and branded by Hammond Manufacturing Co. (USA).
Each rack is made of solid hardwood with a front tile-holding ledge and features an original printed paper score table sealed under the finish along the back edge. These printed guides were designed to help players calculate points using the early Western doubling scoring system commonly used in American Mah-Jongg during the 1920s.
The printed label identifies the racks as:
Mah-Jongg Rack and Doubling Score Table
Hammond Manufacturing Co. (USA)Text on the scoring strip includes instructions such as:
“At close of each game turn rack up on back edge”
Doubling score reference values (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, etc.)
These racks were originally included as part of complete Hammond Mah-Jongg boxed sets, which would have also contained tiles, scoring counters, and rule booklets. The racks were not sold separately when new.
